    Hiawatha National Forest

    Hiawatha National Forest derives its name from Longfellow's Song of Hiawatha. The Hiawatha wetland forest covers 879,000 acres (355,719 ha) in two locations on the upper peninsula. Birdwatching is very popular in the forest, as are fishing, camping, biking, skiing and snowmobiling.
