Encompassing 6,983 acres (2,826 ha), Craig Lake State Park is one of the most remote parks in Michigan. A four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended to access this park, as the terrain is rough. Six lakes, several ponds and an abundance of wildlife are found within this park. Hunting, fishing, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and metal detecting are popular activities in this park.

Van Riper State Park is located 17 mi west of Ishpeming. This park contains one-half mile of frontage on the east end of Lake Michigamme and also one and a half miles of frontage on the Peshekee River. Outdoor activities include fishing, swimming, hiking and much more.
